As a woman, just how healthy are you, and how can you improve?

It’s May! A month we celebrate Mom’s, and it’s also dubbed Women’s Health Month quite appropriately.
While we love our moms and those mom-figures who have supported us so much throughout our lives, we have to wonder: how much (if you are a woman) how much are you taking care of yourself?

As a daughter who lost her mom too soon, I realized the importance of exploring holistic ways of healing, which fueled my passion to create The Healing Institute.
Yet even as a mom, I know my kids have always come top of mind, and I don’t always take that same time and care for myself, even as a Body Code practitioner.
Talk about “physician, heal thyself!”

In general…
Women often do not get enough sleep, which can be the result of hormonal changes, and can lead to higher levels of stress and anxiety, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Only 1 in 5 women meet guidelines for exercise according to a survey on National health, and that statistic gets worse with age.
Exercise can help to improve brain health along with a host of other benefits.
While women are better than men at being aware of good nutrition and follow a healthy diet, and 45 percent of women say they are “on a diet", and 1 in 12 (8%) have eating disorders. Let’s take a moment to change that, shall we?

Gathering great practitioners who have a varied scope of specialties is how we at The Healing Institute can serve a broader scope of people, many of whom are women seeking the cause of their discomfort or health issues.

What a perfect time to talk with Dr. Patricia May, who specializes in functional medicine, on our recent Heal the World Show Podcast.
She and I have seen how women’s health issues, which are sometimes intensified by hormonal changes, often have roots in negative or traumatic life events, sometimes reaching back to childhood.

Dr. May’s practice includes traditional medical protocols, like blood and hormone testing, but also employs holistic (all-encompassing) methods to determine the root causes of disease, pain, imbalance and illness.

For example, we have all heard the term “gut health” by now and Dr. May also looks into dietary factors with her patients as part of her practice.
These often cause pain and discomfort throughout the body as toxins that should be eliminated are actually absorbed back into the bloodstream.
Take a moment to listen in to my chat with Dr. May to learn ways we can all improve our health, often beginning with foods we have within reach. It can be the doorway to improving issues that we may never have connected with relieving pain, emotional issues and even brain health. You will also find that by listening, there’s a bonus if you sign up for a consultation with Dr. May!

Let’s take a cue from Dr. May, and celebrate ourselves by taking good care of ourselves, and that includes taking charge of our health.

The Healing Institute has practitioners who can be matched to your concerns.
