June is PTSD Awareness Month.

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is challenging for the person who has it and also for family and friends offering support.

Here are some ways to support someone experiencing PTSD:

Understand symptoms and triggers. There are many different symptoms.
Learn about flashbacks, hypervigilance, avoidance behaviors, and mood changes.
Be aware of potential triggers that might cause distress or flashbacks and understand how to support the person
experiencing them.

Offer consistent support. Listen without judgement, be patient, validate their feelings, check in with them regularly.

Encourage professional help with therapy and support groups.

Suggest and promote healthy lifestyle choices such as physical activity, healthy diet, meditation, relaxation, yoga,
and conscious breathing practices.
