What you are suppressing is often what is keeping you from healing.

April was World Health Month - did you miss it?

Fortunately, we know that any month is the perfect month to start a journey to healing. And ironically, much of our healing is achieved by going through some pretty unlikely doors: pain, trauma, and even death for some.

Pain is not pleasant; no one enjoys being in pain, of course. So we humans have become masters of avoiding and suppressing it whenever it comes into our lives.
Yet pain is a teacher, and very necessary to allow ourselves to find

Whether it is physical or emotional, our bodies still absorb it, and no matter how we try to deflect it, run away from it or self-medicate it, pain needs to be recognized before it can be released, and bring us to a better self, and a healed self.

Recently, we ended April with a fantastic discussion with author and practitioner Sandra Combe on the.
Her story is amazing, as it truly encompasses so many types of pain, and even death, which by allowing herself to encounter them, she found a healthier self, spiritually and physiologically.

“Death was the teacher that showed me the importance of living,” she explained of her near-death experience.

While most of us will not experience such a profound life event like near death experiences, Combe reminds us that we all experience other pain that, when we keep bypassing is, keeps us unwell.

“We came here to have fun, and we bury all of our shame, and our shadow, and trauma, and it shows up in illness and disease in our body,” she adds.

Combe’s statement is echoed by so many in the medical community, with the National Institutes of Health confirming that “Delayed responses to trauma can include persistent fatigue, sleep disorders, nightmares, fear of recurrence, anxiety focused on flashbacks, depression, and avoidance of emotions, sensations, or activities that are associated with the trauma, even remotely.”

Psychologists also point to physical ailments like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer as a result of repressing trauma or pain.

Fortunately, what is stored in the body can be released through many modalities, including meditation, mindfulness, and Body Code practices.

So, what is your body telling you? If you know you are not well, either mentally or physically, do you really just want to take a pill to continue to suppress that message?

True healing is tapping into that personal power, tapping into the source of the pain, recognizing it, and then (here’s the tough part) letting it go.
Many people who go through these holistic practices find themselves not just losing the weight of their pain in their spirit, but also find themselves pounds lighter.

There is no time like the present to start healing, and as Combe tells us, it’s important to have a sacred space, a “kingdom of heaven on earth, even if it’s within our hearts” in order to receive it.
